Reflection 3

LIS-5513 Information Sources & Services has helped increase my understanding of the ALA Core Competences (2023). From working in a public library, all of my reference work has been focused solely on digital references. Taking this course and being able to understand how to think critically about what makes a good reference source and how to provide reasoning behind selecting the source for a reference collection has been invaluable. The same can be said about LIS-5453 Digital Collections. I have frequently used digital collections to assist patrons at the library I work and for personal searches. 

However, this course has taken my understanding to a higher level. I have gained the ability to critically analyze digital collections and understand how my experience in user design, full-stack development, and search index creation can be combined to assist others in using or evaluating digital collections. Research and Evaluation Methods (LIS-5713) has made me look at how to conduct research in a completely different way than my previous experience and I have taken CITI training and have CITI certification.
